Google “How do celebrities get rid of cellulite?” and you might find answers such having plastic surgery or using “Photoshop and body makeup.” Not very encouraging! What is cellulite and what can the average person do to reduce it?
What is Cellulite?
We all have fat cells, which are clustered together within connective tissue beneath the skin. Cellulite is caused by fat cells within the connective tissue being pushed down under the skin. This produces an uneven appearance, primarily in the thighs, hips and buttock areas. As fat cells become larger they press against the connective tissue beneath the skin, creating more noticeable cellulite.
Factors in determining who will have cellulite and to what degree include:
- Weight – ideally within average weight guidelines
- Diet – food & drink (healthy vs unhealthy)
- Exercise – level of activity
- Hormones – hormone imbalances
- Age – aging increases likelihood of having cellulite
- Genetics – determine skin structure, skin texture and body type
- Excess Alcohol Consumption
Why do only females have cellulite? Females store fat differently than men, making them more likely to have cellulite. This is especially true if they are pear-shaped and/or overweight. However, even women who are of average weight can have some cellulite.
How to Reduce Cellulite
If you have cellulite and would like to reduce it, a healthy diet and active lifestyle are always the first steps. Some creams and lotions may temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite if they contain ingredients to plump up the skin. Keep in mind that cellulite is created beneath the skin, therefore at home treatments are not able to reach the depth required for any significant change.
Fortunately, surgical and medical aesthetic treatments are available today that can make a tremendous difference. Cellulite reduction treatments that target the area(s) of concern to both shrink fat cells and tighten skin are the most successful.
Effective Cellulite Treatments
Surgery – Surgical options such as Cellulaze uses two technologies: laser liposuction to liquefy and remove the fat, and another surgical tool to cut the connective tissue bands which hold clusters of fat cells in place. This should result in smoother skin and decrease the appearance of cellulite.
Consider the costs, risks and recovery time required when consulting with a plastic surgeon for this type of procedure.
Non-Surgery – There are several non-surgical options to treat cellulite, including TriLipo Radiofrequency. TriLipo treatments are among the best non-surgical options available because they treat the size of fat cells, plus tighten and firm the skin at the same time. Shrinking fat cells creates smaller fat cells lying beneath the skin’s surface, creating a smoother, more even appearance. The heat from TriLipo’s radiofrequency also helps tighten the skin by producing new collagen and elastin. This can be especially helpful for women over 40, who lose collagen and elastin as they age.
Clients who have completed a series of TriLipo Radiofrequency Treatments offered at NuCurves have achieved a noticeable reduction in the appearance of their stubborn cellulite.
